year of possible.
We have reached the end of another year! I can’t believe it. This year, my focus word was possible, based on Matthew 19:26: Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
I had so many dreams and goals going into 2024. I was praying for God to do what seemed impossible. This word didn’t fail to show up and I never want to lose sight of God’s power and His endless possibilities. Let’s examine the story behind Matthew 19:26 together to see how God showed His possibilities this year.
In this story, Matthew 19:16-30, a rich man asks, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” Jesus responds, “by keeping the commandments” and explains the commandments to him. Then, the man says, “All these I have kept, what do I still lack?” Jesus tells the man to sell everything he has and give to the poor then he will have treasures in heaven. The man went away with sadness because he was of great wealth and didn’t want to sell his possessions, not even for the gift of eternal life or for the honor of following Jesus.
After this, Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, it is harder for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone rich to enter the Kingdom of God.” That is when the disciples ask, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus then says the statement that impacted my year, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
What stands out to me here is that Jesus is speaking to salvation. If Jesus says we cannot save ourselves, but only through God can we be saved, how much more can God make possible?! He is a God of BIG possibilities.
This year, I watched God save three of my closest people, including my sister. He changed their lives, and they publicly declared their faith in Jesus! God’s grace allows us to enter a relationship with Him and be saved! We are unable to do many things in our strength, but when we trust God and believe He is able, He will reveal to us the power He has and the ways He makes things possible.
This year, God showed me how powerful and faithful He is when He made the worship night happen. At the beginning of the year, I dreamt of hosting a worship night for girls in my area. When it got postponed, I lost my spark a little bit, but I remembered my word, possible. God made it possible, in His perfect timing. He made what was impossible for me to do on my own, possible through His strength and bringing me a community of people to help.
May we remember that no matter how big or small, God can do the impossible. If it is His will, He will make it happen. He will provide the people and the materials for His will to be done. He will make a way.
2024 was full of joy, laughs, love, and light. I stepped out of my comfort zone, met new people, went to camp, got a job, grew a love for coffee, started driving, read the Bible in a year, and embraced being the person God designed and calls me to be.
May you remember that the Father loves to hear about your hopes, dreams, favorites, and truly all the things! He wants to show you all that He can do.
Praise for 2024, Pray for 2025.
Dear God, thank You for Your endless possibilities and the power You hold to make all things possible. Thank You for allowing us to have a relationship with You and for the truth that we cannot save ourselves. We praise You, the God from whom all blessings flow, for Your goodness in 2024. We lift up prayers for 2025, asking for peace, joy, safety, and health in the new year. You can do more, God, than we could ask for, think of, or imagine and we pray that You would this year. You are a God of possibility. You will make a way. Teach us new things in 2025, God, and reveal more about You and Your character. For all You’ve done, and will do, we praise You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
With so much more to come, I know God will make it possible! I can’t wait to see what God has in store for 2025. Much love to you and yours.
Happy New Year!
