can’t do it alone.
I’m a freshman in high school, and unlike any other freshman I’ve met, I take physics. Yes, physics, a class you take when you are a senior or in college, but my class and I are thriving on our way through.
One week, our lesson was on momentum, and usually for every lesson we have there is a lab or project tied into it. I watched as my teacher, who we all love, pulled out her binder and a stack of papers. She was so giddy and excited to announce this week's project. I couldn’t tell you what I expected it to be, but I think I chuckled as the words “BUILD A ROLLER COASTER” came out of her mouth.
My exact thoughts at this moment were, hello? Mrs. April? Have you met me? I don’t do building. I believe the Lord gives everyone a gift no one else has, and as He was making my list of gifts, building was not there. Speaking... writing… nope, not building.
I thought about just taking the F and moving on, but I’m also competitive and wanted to win the (healthy) competition part of this. It was important to me that it meant something, so after much thought, I decided to build it out of the Bible.
I know what you are thinking, “What! You ripped up a Bible?!” Let me relieve you by stating, that I printed out three books of the Bible.
The moral of the story, I did not win, and my rollercoaster was horrendous. BUT! It had good meaning and God used it to convey a great message. With my coaster, there was one slight issue- my marble kept getting stuck and couldn’t get over the last of the three bumps. I thought about it for a second, and realized- is this us sometimes? A lot of us, me included, try to walk through this life without THE LIFE! Jesus says in John 14:6 that He is the way, the truth, and the life.
In 1 Samuel 17, we are told the story of David and Goliath. If you grew up in the church, I’m sure you’ve heard it. David was just a boy and Goliath was a giant, but there was one other, major difference between them; Goliath came with a sword and javelin, but David came in the name of the Lord. (1 Samuel 17:45)
Who won that battle? DAVID! He defeated the giant by the power of God alone.
Are you trying to win a battle without God? Life will throw a lot more than three bumps in the road, but when we walk with God, we know someone is fighting for us. (Exodus 14:14)
Take a moment to think about you're bump. Maybe it’s anxiety, depression, or chronic illness- now take hold of God and know that with Him, healing is possible. I’m not saying as soon as you accept Christ everything will be perfect, but again, you’ll have someone, someone of greater power fighting for you.
