living as a light in the darkness of school

Many of us are getting back to the normal routine of school, sports, and all the things that come around that! It is an exciting time, with many opportunities to make new friends, learn, and spread the Gospel! The thing about this time is it can also be wrapped around a lot of temptations and darkness rather than light.

Live As Light was created on a mission to encourage teen girls to live as the light of Christ, especially in some of the more temptation-filled areas!

Here is my take on 3 things we can do to better live like Jesus at school!

  1. Gossip < encouragement.

Gossiping may sound fun until you are a victim of it. You never know when someone is talking about you behind your back, and the crazy thing is God hears all of those conversations. Encouraging one another and building them up greatly overpowers anything that gossip can do. When we gossip, we are just bringing each other down, and not exactly following the word of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

Sooo just as the word says, let's build eachother up!

2. Judging < loving

Judging is Jesus’ job, not ours. & that can be really hard sometimes. The thing is, we can immediately look at someone and start judging, but we have to try our best to give all of those thoughts and words to Jesus. We never know what someone is going through, and their life is not for us to judge. Everyday, we can work to do that better, though we will never be perfect at it.

Matthew 7:1-2 says, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Sooo I say again, let's leave the judging up to Jesus!

3. Cursing < speaking about Jesus

School might be one of the best places to introduce the gospel to people, or talk about what Jesus has done in your life to others! When the opportunity arises, let's share about Him, while also respecting one another's point of views! We are called to share the Gospel to all around, rather than using bad language. It can get hard, and it probably will, that's okay! Only Jesus is perfect, and He doesn’t expect us to be. He just wants us to work to be more like Him each day.

Ephesians 4:29 says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

Let all of our talk be wholesome and beneficial to those around!

When you see all these things being praised around your school, we have to stand firm in our faith, and choose to do what we know is right. When you see these things happen at your school, I pray that you are the one who leads people to Jesus and away from the darkness of it all!
