Chosen People

One of my least favorite “subjects” in school is P.E.

Very rarely do we ever just have free days and do something fun. Most days, we go outside and play a team sport. When it comes time to play, we have to pick teams. The coach has everyone line up and then he picks 2 people to be “team captains”.

As soon as I hear those words, i'm out. Never to be seen again.

So, I think we all know that feeling when we are waiting for the team captains to pick and choose who they want. It truly is the worst feeling in the world, especially when you are last chosen.

Being a non-athletic girl, most times I am last chosen. Unless.. Lord willing, and by a miracle, my friend is chosen as a team captain, then I might be picked.

Today I decided to open up google and search the definition of -chosen-. When I hit the search button I saw this pop up:

Cho-sen

Adjective

Having been selected as the best or most appropriate.

Best? Most appropriate? That's the standards I have to live up to in order to be chosen?

Wrong. Wrong. And wrong again.

1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we are C H O S E N people of God. We all have a past story that may look full of sin, wrongdoing, and poor choices. But none of that has stopped God from choosing us. No matter what our past looks like, we are forgiven and chosen by Christ. Not only that, but it says we are God's special possession. So yea, to God, you are not just chosen, but you are SPECIAL.

God didn't stand in front of a line of people and pick out the ones He wanted, He stood in front of a whole city and chose everybody.

It is so easy for us to get wrapped around the thoughts of others, and whether or not we are chosen by them. But, why should we care if we are chosen by mere mortals, when we are fully chosen by God?

My friend once told me that because of the pressure she put on herself to “please others”, she wasn’t going to play in the volleyball game she wanted. I literally texted her the same exact words I said above.

Why should we care if we are chosen by mere mortals, when we are fully chosen by God?

God is the one judging us, right? If you truly believe that only God’s opinion matters, you will start living as the true person God created you to be.

Maybe the people on your team at school didn’t necessarily choose you, but God did. And above anything else, that's all that matters.
